Welcome to Lake King
The region is named for the major feature of the area - Lake King - which is traversed via a 9 km causeway, which includes a look-out towards the eastern end.
The area's salt lakes form a chain, believed to be the remnants of an ancient river system, formed during the early tertiary period (some 60 million years ago), when the climate was supposedly wetter than it is at present.
The area has a temperate climate, with cool evenings and an average annual rainfall of 340 mm.
Farming
The Lake King area is a major grain-growing region for wheat, barley, canola, oats, lupins and various legumes. Crops are harvested between late spring and early summer and delivered to the many large, white CBH wheat bins seen throughout the area.
Another major agricultural industry is the farming of sheep for wool and meat and, increasingly, cattle.
And our secret ...
Lake King is a small town with a big heart; a wonderful place to live and raise children, and a place where visitors are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome.
Lake King is home to a small but vibrant community, with excellent school and recreational facilities.
The area also has lots to offer visitors, including an amazing and spectacular wildflower display each spring, as well as access to the Rabbit Proof Fence, Peak Charles and Frank Hann National Park, scenic drives featuring granite outcrops, gnamma holes and lakes.
Lake King is ideally situated for a stopover between Perth and Esperance, but why not stay longer and explore a little.
